What to Expect

Expect a Relaxing Experience

If you have never had a massage before, or it's your first time visiting Towel and Table Massage, you may be nervous about what to expect during your session. The first thing you should know is that a massage session is all about YOU. You never have to comply with anything that makes you uncomfortable. Your massage therapist wants you to feel comfortable to speak up and request your needs at all times during the session.

When you arrive, you’ll be asked to have a seat while you fill out a short health questionnaire. Your massage therapist will need to have a general idea of your overall health as there are some conditions that require special attention during a massage and a few will even restrict your ability to receive a massage.

Once you and your massage therapist have established the treatment plan for your session, your massage therapist will leave the room allowing you enough time to disrobe to your comfort level and to lay on the warmed massage table under the sheet and blanket. Your massage therapist will always knock before re-entering the room.

Remember: The massage is all about you!

Everyone has different preferences as to what pressure feels best to them. Your massage therapist typically will use a firm pressure and will check in with you periodically about the pressure. You are expected to let your massage therapist know, at anytime during the session, if you’d like more pressure or to lighten their touch using less pressure. If you have any discomfort during your session, please don’t hesitate to speak up and let your massage therapist know. While some people go into a massage thinking the massage therapist must know best, you know what is best for your body. While your massage therapist can feel the various tension patterns and tight muscles, they have no way of knowing how their touch feels to you without you telling them.

While massage for the most part is thought to be relaxing, it can sometimes be a little painful. The pain is a result of the tight muscles being worked on and is usually an indicator of how much tension is in your body. There is a certain level of pressure that is needed for the massage to be effective but at no time should you be in such pain or discomfort that you can’t enjoy your massage experience. This is very important to understand and for you to let your massage therapist know if the pain or pressure is too much.
